Modern Mallorca for the Tourist


Mallorca is the biggest islands in the Balearic Islands cluster. This island is fondly known as the “Mediterranean Lady” for its elegance and delightful offerings.

There are numerous cities, ports and beaches around Mallorca. It has everything a tourist would desire or need for a fantastic holiday.

Tourism development

Tourism started in the 1920s when Mallorca was discovered as an ideal holiday resort. This discovery was made by mostly artists and intellectuals who were attracted to the natural beauty and historical offerings on the island as more and more historical findings surfaced.

The Spanish Civil War disrupted many individuals’ enjoyment of Mallorca for a period of time. When the war ended, many flocked to Mallorca to enjoy its wonderful climate and beautiful natural landscapes.

As more inhabitants settled down, development continued to grow Mallorca as a cosmopolitan holiday resort with a diverse cultural offering.

There are plenty of amenities and a growing number of modern facilities such as hotels, water sports, shops and restaurants around Mallorca for the tourists’ enjoyment. There is a variety of offerings in Mallorca for relaxation, inspiration or entertainment.

Cities and towns

There are many big cities and towns in Mallorca; many of them are located along the coastal shores of Mallorca offering beautiful sandy beaches and crystal clear warm waters. These are Pollensa, Soller, Alcudia, Manarco and Estellencs with coves and creeks around the beaches such as Cala San Vicen, Cala Deia, Cala Esmeralda and Cala Figuera; to name a few. There are many fishing ports around Mallorca like Portocristo and Portocolom. Many locals make their living as fishermen who go out to sea for their daily sea catches. There are many picturesque fishing villages in Mallorca like Cala Ratjada which has ancient monuments; some of which have been converted to residential areas while others are well conserved as historical attractions for tourists.

The international airport at Palma de Mallorca allows millions of tourists to come in to the Balearic Islands. Many tourists enjoy a boat ride from Mallorca to Menorca, Ibiza, Formentera and Cabrera, ferienhäuser in Benissa.

There are many historical findings in Mallorca to attract tourists who are interested in the island’s history which is colorful and diverse according to the diverse influences of past epochs.

Mallorca also offers many delightful parks that are well maintained with many modern amenities for the young and the old. Families would enjoy their time at these public parks while holidaying in Mallorca.
