Palma de Mallorca is the capital of Balearic Island Mallorca and it is quite impressive. The palms and yachts at the port combined with other monuments that you will find within the city makes it a great place to spend a holiday in. It is one place where you find modernity intertwined with history. There are some attractions which cannot be missed while in the capital.
Cathedral: it can certainly be termed as the landmark of the city and the architecture is very creative. Its interior was designed by the famous artist Antoni Gaudi and the results are simply breathtaking. Some of the most impressive features in the cathedral are the sea facing door, chapels and the museum within it with a great collection from Baroque epoch.
Royal palace: it is another attraction in this capital of Mallorca offering you the chance to admire the king’s residential area in history.
La Lonja: it is where you get to identify with the civil architecture of gothic origin. The interior is quite fascinating and you will enjoy the great façade as well. It is nowadays used as an arts museum.
Paseo del Borne: this street is the heart of the center from where you will enjoy the elegance of the island. You will find beautiful palaces on both sides and narrow interesting medieval lanes. Italian influences are very alive in this part of the city than anywhere else within it.
Plaza de Cort: the monuments that you will find in this area include town hall with a magnificent façade from the 17th century and a gothic church. Castillo de Bellver: this is a fortress strategically sitting on a hill top and is a major historical center. It was built in the gothic epoch and it is a sight that is quite elegant. It was a defense mechanism but now you will even find a museum within it which contains valuable classical antique collection.
